Resin print not sticking to the build plate
Find out why a resin print remains on the release film or separates during the first layers.
Stop if you notice a swollen battery, burning smell, exposed mains wiring or liquid inside powered electronics. Protect important data before resets, firmware changes or recovery work.
Where this problem appears
Most masked-SLA resin printers using a removable build plate and vat release film.
Symptoms to confirm
- The build plate rises with no model attached.
- A flat cured shape is left on the release film.
- Supports begin correctly but the model separates later.
Likely causes
- The build plate is not leveled or secured.
- Bottom exposure is too low for the resin and room temperature.
- The plate surface has cured residue or contamination.
- The model orientation creates excessive peel force.
Work in order
Step-by-step fix
- 1
Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection before handling liquid resin.
- 2
Filter the resin and remove every cured fragment from the vat without using sharp metal tools on the release film.
- 3
Clean and inspect the build plate, then confirm it is mounted tightly.
- 4
Level the plate using the printer manufacturer's current procedure.
- 5
Warm cold resin to its recommended operating range and mix it slowly.
- 6
Use the resin maker's exposure guidance as a starting point, changing only one setting at a time.
- 7
Reorient broad flat surfaces and add adequate supports to reduce peel load.
If the main path does not work
- Run a small exposure calibration model before repeating a large print.
- Test a fresh bottle of known resin if the current resin is old, contaminated or repeatedly overheated.
How to reduce repeat failures
Keep the vat clean, record successful profiles by resin and temperature, and inspect the release film before long prints.
Common questions
Is this safe for a beginner?
Some steps require careful technical judgment. Stop before powered disassembly, battery work or wiring changes if you are not experienced.
How long should the checks take?
The typical diagnostic window is 30-45 minutes, although drying time, updates and intermittent faults can take longer.
What should I record before contacting support?
Record the exact device model, software or firmware version, the full message shown, when the problem began and which steps changed the behavior.
